Over the weekend, I was engaged in a discussion about how to talk about integrative health coaching to someone completely new to the subject. You see the field has only been around for few years and is still in its infancy. In fact, national standards don’t even exist for certification yet. The quality of the certification is currently a function of the group doing the certifying. The development of standards is in progress, however. The goal of the National Consortium for Credentialing of Health & Wellness Coaches is to “transform” our current health care system by focusing on “prevention and wellness, and facilitating personal engagement and empowerment for all…” through the utilization of health coaches and coaching skills among health professionals. That kind of explains what a health coaching army hopes to do to our health care system.
But what does that mean to you?
It means that we can help you to maximize your most valuable asset–your health. Imagine you are climbing a mountain and your guide helps you to avoid the pitfalls that may prevent you from summiting. Health coaches serve as the guides that help you to maneuver around the unique obstacles that block you from achieving peak overall health. I guarantee that the view will be great!
